In a competitive market where communication is essential, no downtime is acceptable; The service must be down 100% of the time. From gamers to heavy industries, users are looking for speed, availability, and consistency.

To make sure these needs are consistently met, Ericsson’s Service Continuity AI suite of applications “thinks with data,” using AI to deliver on the promise of your network.

The suite of AI applications for continuity of service is the latest addition to Ericsson’s suite of network support services. The suite of applications is developed together with Communication Service Providers (CSPs). They are not “one size fits all” solutions. Rather, they are smart algorithms that can be modified and adapted to suit your needs.

AI applications help discover and solve potential problems in your network, and work according to specific criteria to improve performance and quality based on the goals you have set.

Thanks to artificial intelligence, the applications in the suite effectively constitute an ever-evolving service, analyzing vast amounts of data to continually improve network quality and performance over time. In other words, the suite of AI applications is combined with human insight to enable your network to start thinking about data.

How does this improve service continuity? Let’s take a closer look.

flexible networks

The hallmarks of a resilient 5G network are reliability, availability, durability, and security. AI delivers value across all layers in the communications network and together enables you to progressively develop and grow your network, into a network of the future. Our service continuity offering is now enhanced with a product near AI applications as enablers to ensure network resilience.

The success of service continuity in modern networks can be summarized in a relatively simple formula:

HI + AI + raw network data High Performance Networks + Accurate Business Decisions

Hello (human insight) artificial intelligence (artificial intelligence)

Thinking about data requires both quantitative and qualitative, and raw network data is the largest pool of data available.

The table below shows the data structure from the service provider that is continuously analyzed using Ericsson service continuity:

Average network data entry for AI continuity of service application suite data sets Collect, process, and create an ML model
70B data point records (structured data) Complex
20 million lines of records (semi-structured data) Too complicated
3M Alarm Logs (unstructured data) very complicated

*Based on a 6-month service life of service continuity (1 minute real-time monitoring) on a live operator network

This is coupled with the knowledge of our experts, who are constantly interacting with AI.

How does this work in the real world?

In a single customer network where our experts provided human insights, we were able to identify twice as many issues as an unsupervised AI in the same network over the same period. As AI software improves and the ability to detect anomalies increases, human supervision increases the impact of the introduction of each new AI application and subsequent changes to the network that can affect the algorithm.

Five categories progress

AI applications are grouped into five main presentation categories – Insights, Performance, Assurance, Self-Healing, and Energy Efficiency.

ideas AI applications that perform network-wide or large-scale audits to help prioritize network operating activities and increase operational efficiency.
performance AI applications that alert the offending cells on top in critical KPIs and automate the fault isolation process to improve network performance and increase operational efficiency
emphasis AI applications that check symptoms and fingerprints to alert potential system failures before alarms to avoid service outages and improve network quality.
self healing Artificial intelligence applications that detect anomalies in the network and perform automatic recovery actions to avoid service outages.
Energy Efficiency Artificial intelligence applications that save energy and improve energy efficiency while protecting and improving network performance.

Each AI application brings with it its own benefits for both CSPs and those who use their services, the most obvious being improved network quality and stability.

artificial intelligence application

Given the importance of service continuity, many cloud service providers are concerned about moving too quickly in implementing automated or AI-powered components, which is why Ericsson provides each customer with a dedicated team to support them on their journey.

This team will help remove entry barriers that prevent CSPs from integrating AI-powered solutions into their network, help them identify their specific needs and provide guidance on where to start and how to move forward on their AI journey. These advisory services will also help CSPs identify organizational shifts and technological changes that may be necessary to fully harness the power of AI.

The operational integration of AI at the product level and near the product level is coupled with closed-loop functionality at the network level. Ericsson’s Service Continuity AI suite of applications helps you save time and focus on the end-user experience, while your network consistently delivers unique value.

Extensive research and applications of the range of AI applications in real life networks have revealed some impressive results:

  • adaptation: 35 percent reduction in critical incidents and up to 60 percent reduction in network performance issues, making the network including radio and core more robust and stable
  • Zero touch: On one network in one month, there were 200 touch repairs, which greatly improved network stability and operational efficiency
  • Sustainability: 43 percent discounts for unnecessary radio replacements,
  • Economical: Energy cost savings of 15 percent thanks to deep sleep automation, making the grid more sustainable

The spirit of cooperation

The range of AI applications underpins the spirit of collaboration, both internally and externally. Ericsson has 3,500 industry and network experts in 180 countries who build these AI applications along with service providers. This ecosystem of shared knowledge and experience is vital in providing the best possible foundation for applications to be useful from the moment they are deployed.

For energy service providers, perhaps the greatest benefit is the ability to shift focus away from the hard work of collecting and analyzing data to identify errors; With AI taking care of this in near real time, they can instead focus on developing new products and services to increase revenue while optimizing network assets for maximum return.

The future: From thinking about data to working with data

The advent of co-innovation two years ago put Ericsson at the forefront of innovation in service continuity as we developed custom AI applications with CSPs. Based on these experiments, we have seen the whole hidden complexity of data-driven network operations.

In order to accelerate the shift to AI-assisted service continuity, we also offer a data-driven transformation consulting service.

Service Continuity Transformation Consultants help you tackle not only the tip of the iceberg, but also the organizational transformations and technology building blocks required to make the most of AI in data-driven operations.

They can help you redefine the process and governance of AI applications, identify recommendations for planning converged operations via an ongoing proactive feedback loop, and provide analytics, automation, artificial intelligence (AAA) skills and end-to-end proactive efficiency.

Artificial intelligence will be a key component in creating high-performance, resilient networks in the future. Teaching your network to think about data – and then act on the data – will make it smaller, more responsive, and more reliable, reducing spending and energy use while creating greater opportunities for new products and services, all at a consistently high level of performance.

Ericsson’s AI applications ensure that service continuity in future networks is proactive rather than reactive, resulting in better performance and a more rewarding experience for cloud service providers and service users alike.
