Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan denies any wrongdoing over Hawthorn allegations

Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan said he was “shocked and deeply depressed” by allegations about Hawthorn’s treatment of First Nations players.

An external review at Hawthorn’s instigation on the club’s First Nations players’ treatment was sent to the AFL two weeks ago. This resulted in the association’s announcement yesterday of the formation of an independent committee to investigate the allegations.

Fagan and former Hawthorne coach Alistair Clarkson are named in the review, which is understood to detail allegations by several former players that they have been pressured by the club to separate themselves from their partners and families.

The audit document was delivered to Hawthorn’s senior management two weeks ago and is now with the AFL Integrity Unit.
